A major milestone achieved

18 02 2011

As part of the immigration process associated with NZ Residency with a job offer, I had conditions attached to my visa. They stated I had to:

  • Start work within three months of landing – CHECK – started the day AFTER landing
  • Stay in the job (or an equivalent one) for three months – CHECK

Once I’d met these conditions, I had to send evidence to NZ Immigration within seven months of arriving. So I dutifully got all the information they required and dropped it off, along with our passports.

Then a black hole appeared. For several days I heard nothing. Then I got an email saying it had been received and they’d be in touch with any questions. Days dragged on and finally I got an email to say our immigration status had changed. Hurrah!

But where were our passports?

Finally, about three weeks after handing them over, our passports came back with shiny new visas in them. So we’re now legal. There are no restrictions stopping us.

Sorry NZ. You don’t get rid of us that easily now!
